Unit Motives
by Die Wolke art group
Vitruvian Thing, Ptolemaeon 29A, 4th floor, 54630, ThessalonikiDie Wolke art group presents its new initiative titled Unit Motives: a presentation of solo contemporary dance works on music by Hungarian composer György Ligeti, one of the most important avant-garde composers of the 20th century. The project aims to explore the different kinetic and choreographic approaches on musical interpretation, grounded on the composer’s work and his compositional methods.
The participant choreographers and performers, having responded to Die Wolke’s open call, worked under Drosia Triantaki’s direction to present the fruits of their inquiries in the form of a unified performance, that assumes the character of a study.
Ligeti’s choice as a composer is anything but random: other than the universal recognition of his work, on musical as well as cinematic circles, through the use of many of his pieces by Stanley Kubrick, his technique itself inspired the experiment of Unit Motives, i.e. the exploration of the relationship between unit and whole as a method of work.
Die Wolke Art Group is a non-profit research and development organisation dedicated to the performing arts, contemporary dance, video art, mixed media and associated technologies. It is comprised by a rotating and ever-expanding cast of individual artists, thinkers, and technicians.
